I think, here on out, I should use all Dreamwidth error messages as my subject line. DW is far more eloquent and snappy than me. (Okay, it's programmers are, because otherwise, I must accept the idea that, yes, a website and its servers can out quote me and that way lies tears and angry feelings)
God my head hurts. *rubs forehead* Work, again, an ass. I need new job stat. Have a few resumes out in good places, but I swear if nothing pans out on them I am saying fuck it and going to work at Tim's while I consider getting a full degree. I am epic in my frustration with the job market at present. People on the verge of retirement (or returning from retirement) snapping up jobs because of, yes, all the experience they already have that I am attempting to build and, yet, am years away from because they're preventing it. (I am reminded of why I avoid one of my cousins. Retired teacher who runs a business and, yet, feels the need to substitute from time to time. I have to bite my tongue not to point out we both know young teachers who could use those hours and SHE SO DOESN'T)
Ahem.
Temper, temper, medie.
And, yes, speaking of, can fandom just stop screaming at each other please? *rubs forehead* this is supposed to be my happy place, damn it. I shouldn't be getting the same tense-paranoid-worried feelings that I get from my asshole boss.
(Seriously a few times tonight? SO FEELING IT.)
Ugh, whatever. I'm going to run and hide in fic for a while, I think.

| Yuletide, Get Your Words Out, HC Bingo, and other shenanigans... |
| Public |
|
Mostly the shenanigans being I managed to miss my last GYWO check in. *facepalm* My schedule got unexpectedly changed by dick manager at the last minute (because his brother-in-law/grocery manager is an absentminded, if lovable, dolt messed with his schedule and, er, didn't tell anyone which then spilled over to mine) and I ended up working late on Friday, which meant I had to shift visiting my aunt in hospital to Saturday (terminally ill with cancer, unfortunately, and had a pain crisis due to a confluence of events and it's a long story *sigh*) and didn't get home until late....
Shenanigans. *shrug*
I didn't quite make my 300,000 word count anyway. I fell short at around 298, 770. Would've made it if not for all those aforementioned reasons.
Either way, woe, but it is hardly the end of the world. Mercifully. It would be a somewhat awful end of the world, wouldn't it?
ugh.
Anyway, I also missed the HC Bingo deadline, but I'm not worried about that one. I don't do the bingos for points. I do them for the stories and the bingos. And I intend on completing that bingo and then doing another one because I'm stubborn like that.
I fell into a bit of a depression in 2011. Work and my boss's hate of me (or the world in general) driving me into it. I'm hoping to turn that around in 2012. Fingers crossed anyway.
In the meantime, Yuletide happened. I wrote the following:
With One Eye Open for kristenell Aliens; Ripley, Newt; pg13; 2775 words She's still waiting, but she'll be damned if that's all she's going to do.
I actually didn't match with kristenell. My initial assignment had, er, issues that meant I had to default in order for them to get a story worth reading. So I did. After week or so of waiting the pinch hits started rolling out. I tried a bunch, missed, then this one landed in my hands. Miracle of miracles I got it. Much dancing occurred when I actually read their request letter and realized, omg, I'd been thinking about a story pretty much along those lines.
I didn't have as much time as anyone else so I wrote like the wind and then anr made with the beta magic. She made this story SO. MUCH. BETTER. I can't even begin to tell you. And she did it fast. All hail the epic beta.
I must admit I love the story, but I wasn't prepared for the reaction it got. Aliens fans are an epic and loyal bunch, lemme tell you.
*whee*
But I didn't stop there. While I'd been waiting for a story, I asked my circle and f-list for their letters. I didn't get near enough written for those, but I did start one for twtd. I'd never actually read Batwoman before I read her letter, but I couldn't help myself. I read Batwoman: Elegy, I read the new Batwomans, and then I went and got my hands on Gotham Central.
STORY. OF. MY. HEART.
I wasn't 100% happy with that series, but it reminded me why I adored Maggie, Elegy convinced me to love and adore Kate, and I just knew, yuletide or no, I was going to finish that story. Me snagging my proper pinch hit meant I put it aside, but after I finished up writing With One Eye Open, I picked it up again. I love, love, LOVE Maggie Sawyer. I always have. I especially love the animated version of her (bad. ass.) so a bit of that crept into the story I think, but I really had fun with examining the transition of someone from Metropolis to Gotham City. Especially someone who'd been so identified with her city. (and, as always, t'was a good first draft but lilacsigil TOTALLY worked magic)
Dry Bones for twtd Gotham Central; Maggie Sawyer/Toby Raines, Maggie Sawyer/Kate Kane; pg13; 2028 words She's a stranger to Metropolis now. She doesn't fit here anymore or, maybe, it's that Metropolis that doesn't fit her. It's grown up around her, changed, shifted, until the streets she once knew so well are more alien than the man that flies above them.
Around the same time I picked up another pinch hit.
In All the Empty Places for pluvial_poetry The Bourne Trilogy; Nicky/Jason; pg13; 1927 words Of everything, he should remember her.
I love those movies and I love the idea of Nicky/Jason. Especially the part where there's this entire relationship he doesn't remember. He's spent so much time trying to remember the awful things that it never ever occurred to him there might be something wonderful as well. Then he finds out there is, but she has to go on the run before he can really understand and...I had SO much fun with this. (And I owe so much thanks to hardticket and elliemurasaki who came to my rescue to beta this for me when they weren't even familiar with the fandom! But they made it a better story than it was and they kept me pretty error free. AWESOME I tell you)
Then Christmas Day came and much joy was had for all. Except a few emergency pinch hits went out on the list. I was sitting around my living room, reading fic, chatting with the Medie!Mom, and watching the AMC John Wayne marathon. It was good times and so I happened to be right. there. when the emails dropped.
One I had no idea about, but Gotham Central was in the second email and I went "oh ho! thank you twtd for getting me into that" (Seriously, twtd THANKS. This pinch hit exists because, yeah, you got me to read Gotham Central for Yuletide and, thus, the characters were fresh in my mind which let me write fast. (Bless scrollgirl who served as my emergency beta for that one, btw. Responding on Christmas Day is above and beyond!)
Midnight Calls for satchelfoot Gotham Central; Renee Montoya, Maggie Sawyer, Daria Hernandez, Crispus Allen; pg; 1231 words Another way things might have gone...
I really do adore Gotham Central, but like a lot of things, I'm not that thrilled by the ending. I know Renee goes onto a pretty awesome destiny, and in a way, Cris does as well, but damn it...this is the way I wanted it to be (and, I think, if it hadn't been canceled, we might have gotten something along this line. Oracle doesn't make her presence known for no particular reason) and it plays into the whole adopted family subthread that sneaks into most Batman fiction and I about fell over myself at the chance to write it.
Plus, as scrollgirl said, it's totally cop porn!
Then, since I had missed out on Yuletide Madness proper, I decided to try and write another full length one to post to the archive. I had many, many choices, but somehow I ended up reworking Little Red Riding Hood...
Red for amo_amare Fairytales; Little Red Riding Hood/the Huntsman; pg13; 1121 words One would be cold, the Huntsman imagines, trading a thick coat of fur for bare, human skin.
Shapeshifters, matriarchal societies, and winter storms for the win!
There will be a proper 2011 round up later, I think, but first I need to *deep breath* take one more look at the Fandom_Stocking sign up post.
Oh yeah, forgot this.

I need to write 3 stories before tomorrow night to officially bingo and by gum I am GOING to bingo.
So, people, HELP ME. Brainstorm with me? Throw fandoms/pairings/ideas at me for these three prompts:
"rejection"
"hostages"
"Stalkers" (oh, I could do a gen, JJ & Emily story about that one. They did that episode...hmm)
Still, HALP? :p

Specifically, but not limited to, Dresden/Marcone. (Crosswind!Harry is welcome. That'd be my cis-fem!Harry. Again can be a gen prompt) I'm prepping to write fandom-stocking and find myself annoyingly devoid of prompts.
Basically if you could get me to write one Dresden story...

Oh, Firefox, I have all the hate for you right now. You just ate an entry because I accidentally somehow hit the keyboard combination for group tabs. You reloaded all the tabs fine but the post I was typing?
*hates*
And on the HATE!RAGE! front, I tried reading an LJ news post. Ow. *rubs head* I suspect if you guys don't use customized comment pages, I probably won't be reading much on your journals. That hurts.
Anyway, yes, bought things for Mom for Christmas. Yay. Had modest small C-mas haul myself (I am mystified how I did not end up with a dozen purses as everyone knows I am a nut for them) which involve certificates for nails, books, and money, also a bitching sweater/poncho thing that is comfortable, pretty, and SO ME.
Spent most of yesterday watching the John Wayne marathon on AMC. Mom adores him, I am equally fond, I suspect a lot of that is to do with the fact my father strongly resembled John in appearance and mannerisms, so watching a John Wayne movie is a lot like having my father back. He felt verrrry present yesterday and a lot of that had to do with watching those movies I think.
Now Criminal Minds is on A&E and it is the Derek goes back to Chicago ep and oh god, I want to write a Crosswind!verse missing scene for this episode. It is my brain canon that Derek's last assignment with the CPD was Special Investigations and that he and Dresden are still friendly types (though he is forbidden from entering their offices as the last time he did so, he fried Garcia's computers and she holds a grudge) so it is inevitable that I will write one, but I'm leaning toward Crosswind because female!Harry's face is Paget Brewster and I love the lulzy aspect of that. The cops unfamiliar with Harry think its Agent Prentiss escorting Derek out of the police station until one of the SI people asks if, by chance, she was suddenly wearing a long, black leather duster and then Murphy's fuming because, omg, Harry just aided and abetted a fugitive and, oops?
Except, of course, Harry has plausible deniability because all she did was run into Derek in the police station (and happened to fry every single security camera on the way out, whoopsie) and give him a ride somewhere...
Oopsie?
Mostly, though, I want to write the scene where some cop on the scene at the end remarks 'it's not like we have to worry about a trial' and Hotch just zeros in on them demanding to know why and everyone points at the pictures Carl Buford kept on his wall and more than a few of them have him shaking hands and smiling with John Marcone.
Meaning Gentleman Johnny's been on good terms with a pedophile for years and everyone with the CPD knows what that means. I just love the idea of Hotch getting, well, Hotch over it. It's a pity they didn't do this one in the Rossi years (since we know Rossi has, er, old friends who were in Marcone's line of work) as he would just give Hotch this 'look', but still...
And yes I need to not be thinking about this or I will get no Yuletide Madness done.

| WOOT, Yuletide! |
| Public |
excited |

Okay, so, I hit Yuletide jackpot. Two stories. TWO about Andrea. TWO. PEOPLE DO YOU EVEN? *TWIRL*
It gets better.
Gently they go, the beautiful, the tender, the kind. Walking Dead (tv)/Terminator Salvation, Andrea/Kate. Kate shows up in their world and, zomg, there is SO MUCH going on in this. I should warn for character death, mentions of miscarriage, and some heavy themes, but the story itself? OH ALL THE LOVE.
And a treat for me and a few others (and what a treat!!!)
Something in the Guns Walking Dead (tv) Andrea. Daryl. Sort of Andrea/Daryl, but mostly gen focusing on the events of episodes 2.05 and 2.06 (“Chupacabra,” and "Secrets") where she shoots him and, oh yes, so much fantastic character stuff going on.
AHEM.
TWO STORIES ABOUT ANDREA. ZOMG. And I got bonus Kate too!
AHEM.
forgive the Paul Gross arms, but \o/ ZOMG
For my part, I have, uh, 4 full length stories in the archive. (Need to start writing some treats for Madness) Two are gen with canon femslash pairings, one is explicitly het, and one features a background het pairing but is mostly gen.
So, yes, feel free to guess. :p

So, that said, here's my sign up letter should someone be interested and I'm off to try a treat or two more.

Someone tell me there's a work around for the removal of mass-screening/unscreening? Otherwise, I've got 300+ stockings that will need each and every comment manually unscreened. OH FUCK NO.
That's it. If LJ can't get it's act together, I'm moving fandom_stocking to Dreamwidth for next year. This year, stockings will have a few days extra past our usual day of January 6th because there's no way, even with help, I can go through and unscreen those stockings fresh off an 8-hour work day.
Yeah, this is pretty much it for me and Livejournal I think. I'm letting my paid account status lapse. I'm just, no, I have enough stress going on in my offline day to day that I don't need this kind of shit here too. I'll keep on crossposting, but I think I'm going to migrate as much as possible over here.
Just, UGH.
ETA: Turning the Customized Comment Pages back on gets me mass-unscreening, but if these changes are migrating over to these styles too, I'm thinking, yes, next year to DW it goes.

There is a Christmas movie on set on Edmonton. Features a RCMP inspector played Tim Curry doing an exaggerated Scottish accent (yet still not as bad as some kid throwing about 10 'eh's into a scene where he might've had five lines *facepalm*) and I was all set to complain when (bad part aside) theoretically an RCMP inspector COULD have such an accent as we, uh, poach from the Met all the time. *g*
Also I can't complain because it has Patrick Swayze as the dad and I am feeling sad and nostalgic. (Christmas in Wonderland for those in the know) Oh Patrick. *sniff*
-
YULETIDE ASSIGNMENT HAS BEEN ACHIEVED. \o/ I was just starting to panic as I hadn't been able to snag a pinch hit, but now I have and it is perfect so, naturally, I am paranoid I will develop a magical block of some kind.
Ugh.
Because, yes, if I'm not panicking about not having an assignment, I must panic about doing the assignment I do have badly. Welcome to my brain....
...which is on the verge of being besieged by DCU again. Curse you Dark Knight trailer for distracting me! (And waking up the Superwoman muse. Clark has never forgiven me for not breaking up that NaNo into those three separate stories and reading some DC Comics that, er, fell off the back of a cyber truck hasn't helped either *facepalms more*) Ah well, it'll come in handy for fandom_stocking at least.
*wibble*
We have a, uh, mind-boggling number of letters this year. I forget the exact number but, uh, MEEP? I am only truly worried about one as it is bandom and obscure swedish ones at that. (I suggest multiple things for a reason, peeps, and this would be one of them.) Argh.
If LJ goes through with the comment subject line changes, however, I may just up and relocate the whole thing to DW next year. It would probably cut down on participation which is sad, but on the other hand, much easier formatting and a design team that is very unlikely to mess with the formatting of the site right before the challenge goes BOOM.
But yes, there is a realllllly mad amount of letters this year so, um, *pleady face at you all*
I am tempted to do some kind of random twitter 'give me a fandom and I'll give you a letter' challenge sort of thing just for fun. Maybe over the holidays as I am working nights for the next three days (12-9 shifts) and don't know -
And, um, some people may have gotten gift notifications last night. See, last year I had this plan to write 30 stories for my 30th birthday. I never did get 30 prompts, but I got a lot and I was going to hold onto all the stories, until, yeah, it's over a year later and verging on two years, and I still have five stories left to write. So I released the ones I did have finished and, hopefully, this will provide the impetus to finish the others.
(that said, if you submitted a request and haven't seen a story yet and are of a mind to change your request...feel free!)
Or if you want to add one, do that too. I would like an even 30 stories and need, uh, 9 more to hit that magic number.
-
796 words on Yuletide. WOOT. Am going to need a beta for this one too (this is the proper YT assignment, not the WIP I already had going *g* That would've been kismet of the highest order) so, um, help?
And I should go finish!
*crosses fingers*

Trust me, the last thing you want is me singing. Even if it's All You Need is Love. So, yes, this is me asking for links to everyone's love meme links for allthingsgood's love meme. I am here (and omg, people already have me blushing. This is one I'll be sneaking back to throughout the year to reread)
There will be proper content in a post from me at some point, SWEAR, but at the moment all I can say is I have begun writing fandom_stocking (anyone want to beta a little criminal minds, morgan/reid story? I have yet to write those guys at all so I'm nervous) drabbles while I consolidate tags to streamline things a little. Right now I'm just eliminating duplications and typos (most of which are mine *blush*), but I've got the treks knocked into line as well as the stargates...I'm working my way up through the list. Have to take my aunt to the doctor today so it won't be until later tonight before I can attack it again.
Also, Once Upon a Time, MUCHHHH better episode this week. ( Spoilery maybe? )
